It was to be Ian & my first Blackpool weekend,Roy an old hand & Ron decided we would head north just to remind folks Hertfordshire Wings are still alive & kicking.Setting off on the Friday morning with the M1 & M6 ahead of us & a weather forcast to keep us smiling everyone was looking forward to the weekend ahead.
After a few hours of riding with a break halfway the sight of Blackpool tower on the horizon was a welcoming sight and as we rolled on into town first order of the day was to find a local jetwash.
With the bikes & trikes nicely cleaned it was on to Pontins and get ourselves checked in and meet up with all the other riders, after a nice cuppa and all registered for the weekend it was off to check out the rooms and some chill down time.
As evening approached it was time for some food and then on to the static light show with Roy & myself joining all the other bikes & trikes on display,it was great to see so many ideas put into reality on 2 & 3 wheels and nice to see Roy come away with the best lit solo award considering there was so much strong competition.
Saturday morning was soon upon us, and after a hearty breakfast ( Roy eating for 2 for some reason ) it was off down to the Prom for the static display and all the other activities taking place and time for Ian and I to take a stroll in search of silly hats and novelties ( its got to be done its Blackpool after all ) then back to watch everything going on at the prom.
After heading back to Pontins late afternoon it was time to check out our Wings and make sure everything was ok for the light run, here starteth the problems as Roy had forgotten to pack his remote control for all his lights.
The only way to overcome this problem was to borrow Ian’s remote control and adapt his own receiver on the bike ( problem 1 sorted ),this created a two fold problem because if the lights on one bike were on and you switched the lights on the second bike on number 1 bikes lights went out and visa versa.
This made life great fun and the only way to cure the problem was to keep both bikes at least 100 yards apart, so we left to head for the mustering point all you could see was Wings ahead of us and Wings behind us, what a sight to see and as night drew in the crowds were starting to build.
When the parade got under way you just couldn’t help but be drawn along by the atmosphere from the crowd and all the riders and the sight of so many bikes in so many colours was something you have to see to believe but in no time at all it just seemed to be over.
After such a fun start to the evening it was decided that Roy,Ian & myself would head off into St Helens for a Chinese meal something to do with Roy’s weekly ritual leaving Ron behind at Pontins with other friends he had met up with earlier, good job we had left Ron behind because half way through the meal we get a phone call telling us Roy had won best 1500 from the static display earlier.
After a great meal we returned to the camp to another surprise, I had won best 3 wheel from the same display earlier and didn’t even realise the bikes were being judged so all in all Hertfordshire Wings had a great weekend.. |
